With winter season just around the corner, this may be the best time to plan for a winter vacation. There is certainly no shortage in choice as there are plenty locations to visit and enjoy, from warm summer-like islands to snow packed resorts. To make the pick a little bit easier, here are the top three vacation locations for winter 2016.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
One of the usual suspects on many vacation list, Puerto Rico’s capital is the center of the country, being a financial, cultural and tourism center. With warm weather during winter time, San Juan is an ideal getaway for those looking to avoid snow and low temperatures. The city is mesmerizing with its dynamic lifestyle, beautiful beaches and plentiful of quality restaurants and museums. Main winter attraction is the San Sebastián Street Fest, taking place mid-January in Old San Juan, a historic colonial section and a beauty of its own. The festival is family-friendly with lots of food, parades, dancing and street vendors whose offer includes things from websites like stylewe to local and traditional products. The carnival-like atmosphere attracts many and is a unique way to experience the essence of Puerto Rico.
For lovers of relatively mild winters and monumental places, Dublin is as good as it gets. Vibrant nightlife with its world famous pub culture, rich cultural heritage and lots of historical landmarks provide days of fun, excitement and relaxation. Main winter draw is the New Year’s Festival (NYF), adding to the city’s reputation as one of the most prominent places for younger population. The arts, culture and live entertainment festival has plenty of free events in the designated NYF Hub which remains car-free so you ideally you can walk your way around and meet the city. Glaring streetscapes lightened by 3D light projections, outdoor New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert, health and fitness activities are just some of the events that make this festival the best on the island. Adding to the walking theme, Dublin’s Phoenix Park is the biggest inner city park in Europe.
Park City, Utah, USA
If you prefer your winters the usual way – cold and snowy, then Park City is the place for you. This former mining village turned around its prospects by becoming a huge tourist hot spot and a number one skiing destination in United States. There are two major ski resorts, with the recently renewed Park City Mountain Resort the largest one in the country. The city also has many retail stores, nightclubs and restaurants, as well as an abundance of nearby reservoirs and hot springs. The surrounding forests are intertwined with numerous hiking and biking trails that keep the town occupied by outdoor enthusiasts in drier seasons.
On top of that, the city is home to United States’ largest independent film festival – the Sundance Film Festival. Taking place in the second half of January, the festival turns the city into a winter version of Hollywood with a number attending.
